April 15th Field Trip

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Renaissance community has planned a field trip for Wednesday, April 15th.  We will be going to Petra Cliffs indoor climbing center in Burlington to learn about climbing and participate in team building activities. The staff at Petra Cliffs will provide instruction on safe climbing practices.  All students will be given the opportunity to try climbing if they choose.  As part of our technology and engineering curriculum, we will also tour two local factories.  Engineers at Burton, will demonstrate how they design, create, and test prototypes of snowboards and bindings.  Our tour will include history of the company and manufacturing processes.  Lastly, we will visit the Lake Champlain Chocolate Factory.  Students will view the production process of Lake Champlain Chocolates.

In order for students to participate at Petra Cliffs, you must sign and return the attached release form. Students must also have sneakers and comfortable clothing. Students will need to bring a non-glass water bottle.

Please fill out the permission slip sent home with your child.

Teambuilding

Renaissance students participated in a 25 minute team building activity Thursday afternoon.  Groups of 6-7 students picked a song title from a bucket, and a topic from another bucket.  Students then worked together for 15 minutes to re-write the lyrics of their song with the topic they had picked.  The results were amazingly creative and hilarious.

World Water Day Contest

Renaissance recently entered the World Water Day Challenge hosted by the Lake Champlain Basin Program.  This was a great way to summarize the work we have been doing towards the Rain Garden for our school.

Food 4 Phones!

Would you give up your phone for a day? What if you got a waffle or pancake to sweeten the deal? Renaissance students were encouraged to turn in their electronics today. "So, Look up from your phone, shut down the display, take in your surroundings make the most of today. Just one real connection its all it can take, to show you the difference that being present can make."
