S.T.A.R Bucks (science, technology, and reasoning)

We are making a model of our school to show the principal and the school board where the electric car charging station would be located and how the station will work.

New compost poster

Students created this poster to display the work the team has done around a new compost system for garden waste and snack scraps.

Basic math skills!

Students started a new poster to celebrate their success!  Signatures represent those students who have complete their BMS this trimester.

Proportional Reasoning Project

7th Graders have started presenting their proportional reasoning project. Here is David's poem and a few pictures. We will be presenting the second project next Friday. We learned Barbies waist would only be 12 inches around if she was scaled to be Taylor's height. We also learned that the Barbie's wrist would be the size of an American Doll's wrist, and that if we scaled an American Doll to be proportional to Megan, the doll's wrist would be 6 inches wide! In addition, some students scaled recipes and shared examples with the class

Compost Update

Renaissance presented to the Land Use Committee today. Below is their presentation. We look forward to presenting to the school board next week. The Land Use Committee approved the design.

Graham Cracker Plate Tectonics Lab

Students were able to take a hands on approach to learning about plate tectonics.  Graham crackers were used to represent the continental crust.  Fruit Roll Up was used to represent oceanic crusts (they are less dense than continental crusts).  With a lithosphere of frosting, students manipulated the materials to show convergent boundaries, rifts, subduction zones and more!

Charlie Brooks

Charlie Brooks is a local St. Albans author of young adult fantasy novels.  He spoke with Renaissance about the writing process, his own journey to becoming a published author, and the importance of following your dreams. Students had many questions and enjoyed the discussion.
