March Madness (Mathness)

There are 400,000 NCAA student-athletes and almost all of them will become professionals in something other than sports.

Students are invited to complete a tournament bracket.  We hope to broaden the range of future educational opportunities for the students through their exposure to colleges and universities in the NCAA tournament.  Students will locate the schools, and compute many statistics.  On Wednesday, Renaissance will participate in a free throw tournament, and discuss which statistic describes the "best" shooter.    Lastly, we will look at how sodium effects an athletes body and discover which foods are high in sodium.

The primary difference between Divisions I and II and Division III is the awarding of scholarships. Divisions I and II award scholarships for their athletics programs, while Division III does not provide athletically related financial aid.

Each year, more than 400,000 student-athletes compete in three divisions (Division I, Division II and Division III) in 23 sports. Annually, approximately 49,000 student-athletes compete in 88 NCAA championships. Three of these championships – rifle, fencing and skiing – are coed championships in which men and women compete head-to-head.
