Geography Study Tools

Students from Renaissance can use Google Drawing templates to help them learn and study the names and locations of the states. The New England map is a great way to practice with the drawing interface by moving shapes and copying text boxes. The Eastern US, Midwestern and Southern US, and the West Coast maps are all available to them in our Google Apps domain. Simply go to Drive--Create--From Template and search "map."  Once you find the map you like, choose Use This Template.  NOTE: These maps only work if you are logged into the domain.

What's a CLA you ask?  CLA stands for Common Local Assessments; or tests that everyone at our school take.  Today 7th and 8th graders took their computational fluency test.  This year the test was given online.  Most students used small white boards to do their work.  Great job Renaissance!

Save the Animals!

Students worked in teams to flip their raft, stay on the drift wood, and save the animals.  Here is one groups journey.  Enjoy.

Ms. Suzi talks to our community!

Yesterday Ms. Suzi talked to us about Theory of Mind. She helped students to understand that some students think differently based on their brains, and how they can help support students within the school community. Thank you for coming in!

Science Experiments

Some very unusual things happen when you mix a little milk, food coloring, and a drop of liquid soap.  The milk is more complicated than it looks. It is made up mostly of water and then equal parts of protein, fats, and sugar. The fat has been broken up and spread throughout the milk (by the process called HOMOGENIZATION) into tiny pieces of fat called globules.  When the milk was first placed into the carton, it was still and did not move. Even when the food coloring was added to the milk, things were still quiet. This is because the fat globules were steady and undisturbed. When the soap hits the milk, things begin to move.

The soap breaks up the fat globules and lets them spread across the surface of the milk. As the globules break and expand, they create movement in the milk. Normally you would never notice this, but the food coloring shows how the surface of the milk moves and changes in response to the soap breaking up the fat in the whole milk.
This flowing shows how soap works. It is the same kind of thing that happens when you wash dishes or hair with soap. The soap breaks up the fat or grease and lets it to flow in the water and down the drain.

Password Change Reporting Form

For all students with new email accounts:

You have a default password to enter your account for the first time.  For safety and security reasons, it's in your best interest to change that password. If you do, please fill out this form so we can keep a record of your accounts.  If you change the password and forget what it is, we can't go in and fix it--we'll have to delete the account.  If we have to do that, you'll lose access to all of the Google docs you created using this new account.  So, please use the link to fill out the form so we can record your information.
